Customer Reviews

Functional: 3-liter jar is the perfect size for a small sack (5-LB) of flour or sugar! The 6-liter is just too heavy when full of these kitchen staples, unless you store your staples on the counter; I keep mine in the cupboard above the counter. The seal is absolutely tight; no sugar ants will dare try to enter this fortress. My sugar is safe now. Yea If you like to buy the economical sack (10-LB) of sugar/flour and store it in the 6-liter jar, you can. Or buy two 3-liter jars and empty the 10-pounder sack into two jars. The 1-liter jar is handy for sugaring our hot beverages and such. No more ants crashing tea/coffee time! I like being able to constantly inventory how much stuff I have in the cupboard without entering the containers. Clear glass is very functional on many levels.
Attractive: I prefer the squared jar to the rounded jar. The rounded model looks 'cheaper.' (Sorry) The squared jar wastes less cupboard space, too. Clear glass jars full of staples, cookies, candy, rice, pastas and beans, etc. are so pretty to me. If you like everything all covered up in stainless, ceramic or plastic--then of course--don't buy these.
Maintenance: I never put mine through the dishwasher, especially not the gasket. All dishwasher detergents are too harsh for the gasket; and the long periods of contact with water shortens its life as well. A quick lather, cold rinse, and towel-dry is best. The glass keeps a higher polish if kept away from the dishwasher, too.
Safety: Glass is safer for foods than other materials. Few things give me the creeps more than storing food in smelly plastic made with poisonous outgassing plastisizers. I'd sooner be wrapped in a smelly, brand-new China-made shower curtain and put in the sun. No plastisizer-stench to these great glass jars. I HATE ANTS and plastisizer in the sugar! These jars are also perfect for storing dishwashing-detergent packets. I buy the little individual packets and I feel these jars are safer than the factory cardboard boxes for storage. A toddler or family poodle would have a difficult time opening this bail-wire lid, assuming it was within their reach in the first place. (Yes, my poodle has opened forbidden things with his human-like paws, YIKES!)
Caveat: Glass breaks, enough said. It's heavy and stiff to operate. Naturally, glass is heavier than the other stuff of which storage containers are made. The bail wires are galvanized steel--not stainless or chromed--therefore, NEVER put the wires through the dishwasher--they will corrode! Dry wires thoroughly after hand washing. Also, the bail wire is VERY stiff to open and close. If you have weak or painful hands/arms skip this one. However, the bail-wire strength and ecological glass is the reason I love this jar.
Price: I got mine for $7 at a popular store in town; and no shipping charge either. Sorry, Amazon...lower the price and ship for free. However, I would pay the extra price if I had to. :) Love ya' Amazon; you still rock!

I'd be happier with the product if it's opening was larger.
Also, to hold 5 pounds of flour, 3.5 liters would be more useful than 3 liters, but overall I'm happy I got the jar.
